Welcome to the official blog of MissTravel! Our first month has been quite the whirlwind experience. While most of you have chosen to embrace this opportunity, the general consensus seems to be that we are either completely ludicrous, or genius, maybe both. We have disturbed, intrigued and enthralled millions of people over the world these past several weeks, and we couldn’t be more delighted.

MissTravel.com now has almost 100,000 members in just under two months, with many of you already taking and planning trips. So many questions have been raised as to how this is possibly safe, and why there is no such thing as a free ride, and we thought maybe it was time to address some of those concerns.

Why MissTravel is the next BIG TREND…

Contrary to what our critics may say, MissTravel.com is quickly becoming a hot trend and we will soon be able to showcase real customer testimonials.  The sole purpose of MissTravel is to create new possibilities of romance + travel, that normally would not exist. We understand there are concerns about safety and sincerity, but let’s set those aside for now and discuss WHY this site was created in the first place.

For the purpose of this website, there are only two types of people.

[Generous Traveler]

The first person is a world traveler, generous and financially better off than most. This wealthy traveler has seen so many amazing places, and travels frequently for business, but often feels lonely with out someone to share his adventures with.

[Attractive Traveler]

The second type of person is a single, wannabe-traveler. This person longs to see the world, but doesn’t have the financial means to do so. The wannabe-travelers are hopeless romantics, fueled by the images of going on dates in South Africa, falling in love in St. Lucia, all courtesy of reality television shows like The Bachelor. They dream of being whisked off to Paris for a weekend getaway, or sailing on a yacht off the shores of Belize. But these dreams never seem to come true, as they get caught up in the day-to-day hustle of life, and never seem to have enough money to get their feet off the ground after all the bills have been paid.

So here we have person A, who is looking for someone to travel with, and person B, who would love the opportunity to travel. Wouldn’t it be great if they could get together and make it happen? Enter Miss Travel. Now generous travelers have a platform to meet people who are interested in traveling, but don’t have the means to do so.  Yes, on Miss Travel, these people are referred to as ‘Attractive’ travelers. (But we’ll get into that later). If a ‘generous’ traveler has enough money to go around, and wants to travel with someone, why shouldn’t they be allowed to pay for an ‘attractive’ traveler’s travel expenses? It’s a win-win.

By agreeing to allow a generous person to pay for his/her airfare and hotel, is the attractive person contractually agreeing to sleep with the generous person? Absolutely not.  Are you contractually obligated to sleep with everyone who buys you dinner? I didn’t think so.  So sure, if the date goes well or the ‘Generous’ and ‘Attractive’ travelers really hit it off, somewhere down the line something romantic may occur.  And that is the magic of chemistry and romance that Miss Travel hopes to inspire.

Don’t get hung up on the term ‘Attractive’ or ‘Beautiful’

We get it. By saying ‘Beautiful People Travel Free’, all the people in the world who do not consider themselves ‘beautiful’ are offended. Well, to all you self-proclaimed average Joes and plain Janes, and perhaps even the strange looking, I offer you a definition.

at·trac·tive (adj) : appealing to the senses or mind through beauty, form, character, etc.

[World English Dictionary]

Just about every single person on earth can say that they are some form of ‘attractive’ based on the definition outlined above. Even if you don’t consider yourself pretty, hot, sexy or some other adjective related to physical beauty, that doesn’t mean you don’t have anything to offer another human being. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone has a different definition. We do not deny profiles based on your looks, we are an equal opportunity travel enabler! We do not discriminate against anyone who wants to travel.

What we think about travel safety, and about human trafficking, rape and kidnapping…

We know there are some major concerns about what we are doing to protect our members from insincere users. Human trafficking is a serious, very relevant issue that is affecting many countries around the world. We want our members to be safe, and will listen to all serious complaints, as well as keep an eye on certain accounts and trip offers that seem suspicious.

In an effort to keep our members from becoming victims, we will be offering background checks soon. In addition we will be adding safety tips periodically and updating our members with safety videos and current announcements with travel warnings and statistics. We always recommend getting to know your date before you choose to travel abroad with them, and always confirm reservations and travel plans before you leave. Don’t forget to let all your friends and family know your travel schedule, and who you are traveling with.  We encourage you to report any suspicious activity you may encounter and always take the necessary safety precautions before engaging in a travel date.  Remember, use your common sense and always practice SAFE TRAVEL!

With that said, we are proud of MissTravel and we are looking forward to increasing your appetite for travel. We sincerely hope everyone is here for all the right reasons, and everyone who joins becomes a worldly traveler.

Welcome aboard!

All personalities and perspectives are welcome in the blog, while personal attacks and name calling are not. It’s inevitable that there will be disagreements but let’s handle it as mature adults with class to keep the dialog constructive and respectful. Please refer to the “Blog Etiquette” for more details. Now comment away and let’s enjoy the blog!!

Thanks Michael. I usually don´t use ink in my paintings, only when I´m sketching. Watercolours are so much fun on their own on a big sheet of good paper! : )

I dunno, I really can’t get all that excited about these neighborhood greenways they just don’t do it for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great that there will be additional safe space for cyclists to occupy, but who cares about riding on 58th St.? There’s just about nothing there, mostly just residential. I wish our city would take some real aggressive steps (i.e. cycle tracks) to provide safe biking through arterials where people actually want to go. You know, like Market St., through the downtown core, etc.
