MissTravel’s Packing Tips for Travel Girls

Your flight is booked, now it’s time to pack! Every girl has a different approach to packing, but here are some tips for packing like a pro:

Tip No. 1: Your Carry-On is Your Best Friend.

Never mind the fee to check luggage, the quickest way to put a damper on your getaway, is lost luggage. There isn’t a way to insure your checked luggage won’t get lost, but you can lessen the impact. Utilize your carry on with your favorite pieces, electronics and essentials.

Tip No. 2: Don’t fold, roll.

Folding clothes takes up a lot of space, but if you roll your clothes into tight rolls, you will be able to fit more into your carry on. The large part of a standard size carry-on can hold up to 10 days worth of clothes if you pack carefully.

Tip No. 3:  Zip-lock your miniature liquids

You know the drill: 3 fl oz or less on the plane.  Grab a 1 quart zip-lock baggie and fill it up with your toiletries. You can purchase inexpensive miniature travel containers at any grocery store for your beauty products. Put your zip-lock in the outermost pocket of your carry-on for easy access through security.

Tip No. 4: Pack for different levels of comfort.

Make sure you have enough of a variety of clothing options in your carry-on for any weather or activity. Your carry on should have at minimum two alternate outfits, pajamas, swim-suit, two pairs of socks, extra underwear and a jacket or sweatshirt. Depending on what you plan on wearing on the flight, have two alternate pairs of shoes. (Flats, heels, sneakers).

Tip No. 5: Essentials vs Non-Essentials.

Visa or Mastercard.
Life does not always go according to plan, even on vacation. When traveling internationally, Visa and Mastercard are really the only safe bets. Make sure you take a little plastic with you just in case.

Smart Phone/iPod/iPad.
Your email, calendar, calculator, alarm clock, e-reader, movie-player all in the palm of your hand. Leave your watches, bulky books, lap-top, etc at home, just don’t forget your charger.

Leave the Hair Dryer
Most hotels have a built in hair-dryer in the bathrooms. Hair dryers are bulky, space-wasters. Leave them at home and save room for something else.

Extra Clothing.
Plan your outfits ahead of time, and only allow for one extra alternate. If you are going on a tropical vacation, chances are you will spend most of your time in your bikini anyways. Don’t make the mistake of over packing with unnecessary costume changes.

Towels.
Your hotel will have towels you can borrow. No need to waste space.
………

Now pack those bags, and don’t forget to leave room for souvenirs!

Bon Voyage!

    Packing advice:
    1st tip:
I used to pack 5 or 6 pairs of heels everywhere I went…even on a trip to India! That was a dumb move. On that particular trip I only used my Tom’s, one pair of wedge sandals and flip flops! I was lugging around dead weight AND taking up precious space in my suitcase. If you are traveling/exploring/sightseeing… skip the extra shoes. They are heavy and terrible for sightseeing on foot.
    2nd tip:
Have a ziplock bag of small toiletries pre-packed for last second travel. Keep a set of small shampoo/conditioner, lotion/face wash, toothbrush/toothpaste etc etc in a ziplock so you can throw it into your luggage. This saves me so much time and many companies carry your favorite items in travel sizes if you don’t feel like buying the small bottles separately.
    3rd tip:
Leave room for purchases! This is so much cheaper, and quicker, than shipping things home…
    4th tip:
Make a packing check list and write down everything by category (toiletries, electronics, medications etc..). Double check the list before zipping up your luggage. Make sure you put things like “phone charger” and any medication on the list.
    5th tip:
If you DO forget something, you can most likely find it wherever you are traveling to. If you can’t find it, you’ll have to live without it but a lot of things are easy to obtain. OR, you can pack light and shop for the items you left out. This works well with things like jewelry 🙂 and then you have a souvenir of your visits.

Have fun, be safe ,and I wish beautiful and exciting travels to us all!
