When you think of travel dating, you usually think of long walks on the beach, or dining at five star restaurants with panoramic views. So you join MissTravel with dreams of jet setting to Paris, Milan, New York or Miami.. not expecting to get trip offers to the likes of Jacksonville, Florida or Greensboro, North Carolina. Let’s face it, not every destinations is sexy. There’s nothing sexy about going to Atlantic City when you’d rather be in Vegas, and Jacksonville has NOTHING on Miami. But unfortunately, we can’t avoid a city just because it isn’t sexy. Your boss may send you to Minneapolis on business, doesn’t mean you should have to go alone! But you may find it tough to find a travel companion willing to come along for the ride. Here are the least sexy cities in America according to our members:

1. Greensboro, NC

With a 100% rejection rate, NO ONE wants to meet up in this Carolina city. There’s nothing particularly unpleasant about Greensboro, it’s just not sexy in the eyes of our aspring travelers.

2. Richmond, VA

There are so many appealing destinations in close proximity to Richmond- D.C., Chesapeake Bay to name a few- that it’s easy to see why the capital of Virginia might be overlooked. Richmond fails to attract travelers 98% of the time on MissTravel.

3. Fort Worth, TX

Texas is generally a popular state to visit on MissTravel with lots of trips being planned to Austin, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. But Fort Worth just is not as interesting to travel daters.

4. Beverly Hills, CA

While Los Angeles and most of the areas surrounding Beverly Hills can be found on our most popular destinations lists, Beverly Hills gets no love from MissTravel members. Unless you want to spend your travel date strictly shopping and hanging out with rich people, Beverly Hills is simply not as appealing as a trip offer to a beach city or LA in general.

5. Chattanooga, TN

When you take in to account the rich cultures of Memphis and Nashville, as well as the Smoky Mountain backdrop that can be found in Gatlinburg, Chattanooga is probably not even the fifth sexiest city in Tennessee. So it’s no wonder no one wants to go there on a destination date.

6. Atlantic City, NJ

Las Vegas has consistently taken the top spot for America’s favorite travel dating destination, but Atlantic City is like its ugly stepsister. It’s not even close to comparable in quality, size or amenities and even its proximity to the coast doesn’t help with it’s aesthetics.

7. Atlanta, GA

ATL should be a flyover city. Most people would prefer to connect and then quickly depart onto a better destination. What is it about Atlanta that makes it so unappealing?

8. Jacksonville, FL

Out of all the cities in Florida, Jacksonville has got to be one of the least desirable locations for any trip, much less one that should inspire romance. Miami is super sexy with close proximity to amazing beaches and the Keys, while Orlando and Tampa have tons of night life and general activities to appease any traveler. Jacksonville is very boring in comparison.

9. Corpus Christi, TX

Corpus Christi

The second Texas city to make this list, Corpus Christi’s problem might lie in proximity than an anything else. Situated on the gulf coast with year long mild temperatures should make this coastal city appealing to most travelers, but it lacks accessibility and night life that other cities such as St. Padre Island or Galveston have.

10. Minneapolis, MN

Minneapolis is the perfect destination date for those who love fishing or don’t mind spending a weekend at the Mall of America. But apparently most of our travelers have a different idea of romance, so alas, Minneapolis makes the list of least sexiest places for a travel date.

Do you agree with our list? Why or why not?

What city would you add to our “Least Sexy List”?

I’ve lived in Greensboro and Atlanta. GSO is a great family place, but not sexy. The ATL is amazing. It’s a non stop party and there are TONS of sexy folks to be found. Get it get it

  3. J. Austin says:

Jacksonville NC should be on this list, at the top. Barber shops, tattoo shops, and strip clubs (who need to keep the lights OFF inside, just sayin) make up the majority of this town. Terrible for guys (such as myself) as well, as much as I appreciate the military, cause the girl-guy ratio is about 1-4, and of the women who are here, they are all taken/married/kids, etc

  4. Josh says:

This is just plain silly. Ive met a number and beautiful women and have had a BLAST with them, here in Greensboro, NC. I always laugh at these so called experts that GENERALIZE Cities and Areas. lol. Sheesh.

  5. Jon Firebaugh says:

Since being polite is required I’m just going to say this post is pure unadulterated nonsense. I live in Greensboro and it’s definitely not “sexy”, but Atlanta, Minneapolis? Great towns with a lot of panache.

  6. Larry Oldham says:

I wonder how many of your members have ever visited Greensboro and not just for business, but really visited there to see what Greensboro has to offer. What do they consider sexy? You can have sex anywhere anytime wherever you visit. If you love the person you are traveling with, love is everywhere, even in Greensboro, N.C. Walking in the park, eating at nice restaurants, seeing a new play or enjoying a concert can certainly be arranged in almost any town. Greensboro doesn’t have a beach, neither does a lot of towns and cities.
Does that make them less attractive? Not if you are a person who doesn’t like the Sun or saltwater. What about the people? Does friendliness count or are your members just loners who stay by themselves on a visit? What about cost?
Your money certainly goes further in Greensboro than in Florida or Chicago,
or L.A. I guess your definition of a sexy place to visit or your members thoughts on sexy are skewed in a different direction from normal people.
Oh by the way, I don’t live in Greensboro, just defending it because I have visited and have enjoyed it immensely. Maybe it was just the company that I was keeping at that time that made all the difference about being sexy in Greensboro,N.C. Perhaps your members should hook up with someone from Greensboro before they vote again.

Key west, Malibu, San Francisco, New York

  8. Dave says:

I’m wondering why Pittsburgh, Cleveland or Cinncinati aren’t on the list.

  9. Billy Jones says:

Having been born and raised in Greensboro, North Carolina I totally agree with your assessment. There is nothing here that would inspire romance. Our city leaders are corrupt, nothing works as it should, everyone is overtaxed and visitors are bled dry.Greensboro is a city most well known for the 1979 mass murders in which 6 people were gunned down by the KKK in front of TV cameras from 3 different networks and no one went to jail. Nothing sexy about that. Be afraid, be very afraid.

  10. Mike Jones says:

    Is this an escort site?

  11. Jenn says:

What about St. Louis or Cleveland!? YUCK! I think your readers have just never been to Greensboro. So when they hear a city they’ve never heard of or been to the automatically dont want to come. Would I go to Greensboro on vacation? No. But if I had to come here to visit family or on business there is a lot of romance to be found. We have some of the BEST, unique restaurants. We have beautiful parks and great arts (plays/concerts/etc). And you won’t break the bank doing any of it.

  12. Steph says:

If you guys can’t actually answer the question ‘What is it about Atlanta that makes it so appealing?’, then how can you put it on the list? There are PLENTY of great things for singles to enjoy in the ATL – great restaurants, thriving nightlife & music scenes, interesting attractions (such as The Georgia Aquarium, just to name one), lots of parks for romantic picnics, and the list goes on. Not to mention that there is a disproportionate number of women to men, so if a guy goes to Atlanta looking for love, his chances of success are high. Makes me wonder if any of your staff have actually done much more than just fly through Atlanta…

  13. Roger says:

I don’t understand Atlanta or Beverly Hills on the list, but boy, do you guys have it right with Greensboro being the least sexy city in America.

Most people in the area call it Greensboring and that’s not just a mean slant – there is absolutely nothing alluring about the city if you are a young 20-30’s single.

  14. Whitney says:

While I agree with your assessment of Greensboro (having lived in both Winston-Salem and Charlotte myself), I never had any desire to go there, even with it being so close to where I used to live.

However, now I live in Chattanooga, and I must completely disagree with it being #5. I don’t know when this assessment was made, but it’s wrong.

I moved here, met my now husband, and we love it. There are so many things to do around here, with many different avenues for enjoying the city together. If you’re outdoorsy, we have it. If you’re into history, we have it. If you want amazing food with many selections, we have it. If you want culture or nightlife, we have that too. Of course it’s a smaller scale than Nashville, but downtown is easily accessible, clean, fun, and has so many things going on, especially as spring and summer roll around.

If you spent a week in Chattanooga, you’d love it…so would your date. 😉

P.S. Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge is trashy, overcrowded, and a tourist trap.

  15. KC says:

If you think smart is sexy, Gig City is where it’s at. And if you love the romance of the great outdoors, Chattanooga is a romantic date-a-day destination. But, yes, if your define romantic as too many sweaty people stuffed into a dance club – we’re a bit short on that. Thankful for that.

  16. tyler says:

not really sure why Atlanta is on this..i personally love the city, but to each their own i guess.

Seems to me that the editor & the readers have something against the south. Anywhere in the south can be very romantic, doesn’t matter what part you visit. Nothing could be sexier or more romantic than sitting under a big magnolia in full bloom on a summer evening, watching the sun go down, the air thick with perfume.

  22. John says:

Atlanta ruined itself with suburban sprawl. It has this great downtown infrastructure that was completely abandoned. Instead of having a great city, you have a generic and spread out mess that represents everything bad about Los Angeles, but nothing great. You’re on an island trapped in the deep south and you have this incredibly weird element of uppity southernors and midwesterners who have egos that come from I don’t know where. Very weird place that wishes it were something it is not. Avoid it.

  23. John says:

The Beverly Hills tag is a joke. You could riddle off about 20 midwestern and rust belt cities (Cleveland, Philly, Pittsburgh, keep going) before you ever touch a city in California. Give me a break.

I would be happy to go to any of these places. I have always found that EVERY destination has something to offer! No matter how remote or even if its the “off time” (Ever been to Lansdowne Ontario? LOL)
Anyway, I have been to some of these places and loved it, and most others I have wanted to visit for one reason or another. So, if anyone is looking for a travel companion to one of these destinations, feel free to look me up!
    Cheers 🙂

I actually just left the Triad region from a business trip and boy do you have it right in regards to Greensboro. It is one unsexy city. It is like a big manufacturing plant with some buildings.

Before I went there I looked up the city and saw all these ravings about how great their nightlife is in Downtown. It is great if you are an 18 year old and want to get drunk and throw up in the streets before midnight – otherwise it is wannabe nightlife.

I was there for a week and was surprised how much time I spent leaving the city to meet friends and business associates in Winston Salem, Charlotte and Raleigh.

My advice to any young professional. If you are visiting NC you can save time by not bothering with Greensboro. Stick with Charlotte, Asheville, Wilmington, Raleigh.
