These days daters are staying local to save a buck. In an effort to bring out the beauty of many local digs, MissTravel.com will begin posting a Local Date Destination of the Day. If we happen to cover your hometown, steal ideas for the next time you show your travel companion your town!

San Diego, CA is a city of culture and romance

San Diego is home to an impressive assortment of historical buildings, missions, and coastal attractions many influenced by the Spanish settlement and Indian Natives. The city is also known by travelers for its assortment of bars downtown.

Balboa Park is known as the nation’s largest urban cultural park. Take your travel companion here to view the Botanical Gardens or visit one of its many cultural museums. The grounds are surrounded by green vegetation and an array of local flowers. El Prado is a great place for a romantic walk during a sunny afternoon. Be sure to check out the Reflection Pond, the latticed Botanical Building, and the Bea Evenson Fountain.

Gas lamp District is a true eclectic blend of international cuisine, shopping, and entertainment. A place where you can see charming Victorian-style buildings constructed between 1880 and 1910. Great for an afternoon lunch or enjoy one of the many bars:

Altitude Sky Lounge – happy hour Mon- Fri from 5pm to 7pm and all day Sunday
Enjoy a pleasant view of Downtown San Diego, while soaking in the modern art-deco ambiance

Prohibition – No happy hour. Wed-Sat the aperitif hour is from 7pm to 8pm.
A nod to the comeback of the speakeasy, with courtesy bar rules that keep fun in and the frat boys out. Note that the part explicitly states: No Guest list…We no longer subscribe to the bourgeois notion of Guest List exclusivity. Despite that, the bar is very friendly.

Feeling a bit peckish? Here are MissTravel approved restaurants which are full on flavor and romantic ambience:

Bo-Beau Kitchen + BarOcean Beach north of Downtown San Diego
Romantic and intimate this small, but elegant restaurant, located in the heart of Bohemian Ocean Beach, boasts the a crispy pancetta Brussels sprouts dish that is sure to turn any snob into a fan. Catch the restaurant’s Les Speciaux, offered Sunday through Thursday only and features items such as Tuesday’s “Cheap Date Night for Two” which consists of a bottle of wine from our cellar paired with Chef Kat’s entrée selection for just $39.

Bertrand at Mister A’sBanker’s Hill
High up upon 5th Ave. is this New American cuisine gem. Known for its breathtaking view and impeccable service, Bertrand is more of a splurge than a steal though you can catch a number of specials during the week and on Restaurant Week.

All personalities and perspectives are welcome on the blog, while personal attacks and name calling are not. It’s inevitable that there will be disagreements but let’s handle it as mature adults with class to keep the dialog constructive and respectful. Please refer to the “Blog Etiquette” http://blog.misstravel.com/blog-etiquette/ for more details. Now comment away and let’s enjoy the blog!!

I am so thrilled I found your site. I really found you by mistake, while I was browsing on Google for something else. Anyways I am here now and would just like to say thank you for a useful post and an all round enjoyable blog. (I also enjoy the theme/design), I don’t have time to read through it all at the minute, but I have added your website to my favorites, so when I have time I will be back to read more. Please do keep up the awesome job!
