Traveling is one of life’s greatest joys but like any trip, certain annoyances are inevitable. MissTravel.com surveyed members to see what their biggest travel pet peeves of 2017 are. Some may surprise you… and some may not…

1. Xenophobia

Named word of the year in 2016 by Dictionary.com, “Xenophobia” is making travel more difficult in 2017. MissTravel members stated they would rather pay a hidden travel cost than listen to a close-minded adult. How sad is that? Between Trump’s travel ban and the reputation of U.S. Customs and Border Protection,  is it really any wonder the latest political climate has affected traveler’s decisions this year?

2. Overcrowded Destinations

Thanks to Instagram, your travel bucket list has been longer than ever. While this surge in social media fueled tourism is good for the economy, overcrowding can detract from the experience of traveling to these destinations. Plan a trip off the beaten path and don’t let the Disneyworld-like crowds ruin your vacation!

3. Hidden Travel Costs

The average resort fee has risen 8.7 percent since December. These mandatory fees are taking big cities by storm and catching travelers off guard. Make sure you look closely at the price breakdown before you book accommodations. That “free”wifi at your hotel might not be free after all.

4. Flight Delays

Almost the most inevitable of pet peeves are flight delays. They’re uncontrollable and they’re inconsistent. While flight delays are usually no one in particular’s fault, they are extremely annoying. Unless you have any ideas as to how to control the weather, plan accordingly for an unexpected flight delay.

5. Loud Children

Loud children are not always at the fault of their parents. What may seem like a lack in proper parenting may actually be as mortifying, if not more for the parents involved. Regardless of the situation, loud children are obnoxious. Consider electronics for your kids next time you travel.

What are your biggest travel pet peeves this year?
