Museums offer an ideal setting for a first date. Not only do you get to browse historic and modern artwork, but a stroll through each exhibit is filled with conversation starters, giving new couples the opportunity to get to know each other.

Below are a few museums and pointers, to get through your first exhibit with a potential lover.

Size Matters

If you are visiting a city that boasts many cultural marvels, put some thought into which one you’d like to tour with a date. When picking out the perfect date night setting be sure to keep the size of the museum in mind to avoid feeling rushed or overwhelmed while walking through each exhibit.

MT pick: The Museum of Contemporary Art in Downtown Los Angeles offers an intimate space full of modern works.

Pro tip: Free admission every Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

Choose Wisely

One thing to remember when picking a museum is content. Sure, a stroll through The London Dungeon may seem like a great, off-the-beaten-path date idea but does your date really want to look at recreations of some of the most gory and violent historical events? Unless she’s a history buff, probably not.

Also, be on the lookout for fun and quirky museum options, such as the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, to spruce up your date.

Time Out

Many museums are so large that they cannot be covered within one day. Prior to visiting, consider how much time you and your date would like to spend at an exhibit.

Pro tip: Some museums approximate the amount of time it will take you to move through a showing in the information booklet. If times are not approximated, check with a museum employee to ensure that you will not feel rushed.

Drink Up

Museums love visitors, and many are taking a modern approach to get patrons through their doors. What is more romantic than drinking on a date amidst beautiful gardens? Famous French sites like the Palace of Versailles offer mini-stops to indulge in a glass of Chardonnay, or some bubbly!

Have Fun

Although museums can carry an air of stuffiness, it’s important that you let loose and enjoy the moment with your date. If you’re nervous that it’ll be all too serious, try a locale like the Mob Museum in Las Vegas, which offers interactive and hands-on exhibits for guests.

Which museums would you recommend for a first date?
