A little bit about myself:

I am an educated, sophisticated, well-spoken, academically-orientated, plant-loving non-conformist. 

I'm well-preserved for my age and in the right company (yours ?) witty and charming. My sense of humour is often rather off-beat and dark. I do not suffer fools gladly but otherwise am very laid back and very much at ease in the company of younger people.

WHO AM I LOOKING FOR?

I like optimistic, intelligent, kind-hearted, playful, affectionate, tactile people, who laugh and smile a lot and whose eyes shine brightly — people who entertain utopian ideals and fanciful notions, but whose feet are, nonetheless, firmly on the ground — people who have not lost the child-like capacity to marvel at things great and small and who are passionate in what they believe and in the activities they pursue (whatever they are) — people who are independent, strong-willed, non-judgemental, open-minded, who don't take themselves, or life too seriously — people happy to loll around in t-shirts and jeans most of the time, but who, like me, scrub up well for special occasions.

MORE ABOUT ME

I was born and brought up in SW London. but have lived in the NW for quite a few years now. I speak with a 'Home Counties' accent with a bit of northern twang, which apparently disappears when I'm in London.

I am business-minded and quite entrepreneurial but have never been driven by the pursuit of money; rather a desire to do things to the best of my ability, however lofty or menial.

In an ideal world I would probably be studying bromeliads in the rainforests of Peru, but somehow ended up running several businesses. My interests are very varied — in fact there are few things I'm not interested in at some level. I have a thirst for knowledge and have opinions about almost everything.

I have always been drawn to the natural world, particularly all things botanical. I love trees and gardens, and have even been known to frequent such gatherings as The Chelsea Flower Show.

I don't like pubs or the drinking culture generally — I'm more of a cafe society sort of chap. Give me a good newspaper, a continuous supply of coffee, and a good vantage point to watch the world go by and I'll be happy for hours, especially if that vantage point is situated in a warm tropical climate.

Travelling to exotic places (and more mainstream places too) is something I intend to do a lot more of in the future. I have travelled a lot on my own in the past — which can be very rewarding — but nowadays I'd rather have a suitable companion on my arm, across the dinner table and…

Why I want to travel:

I think I've covered the type of personality I'm seeking above.

Regarding the type of arrangement we might enter into, I'm open-minded and open to suggestions.

I'm after a travelling companion for all sorts of trips — from short city breaks, to skiing holidays, to weeks in the Canaries, to more adventurous jaunts.

I'm pretty fluent in Spanish, so the wonders of South and Central America are easier for me to access and appreciate than for the average traveller. I would like to spend more time in Latin America, so if you have an interest in that part of the world, we already have something in common.
